Background
Age Concern was started by a committee of Albury people in 1977 to advocate for and
provide a range of services for older people and people with a disability. It seeks
to provide for, and encourage, the provision of services within the community that
improve the physical, mental and social well-being of
- People in the community wishing to participate in lifestyle enhancing activities.
- Frail older adults and people with a disability and their families and/or carers.
It does this by:
- Providing meeting places for sharing skills and ideas, caring for one another, personal
support networks, lifestyle enrichment and skilling.
- Informing frail older adults and those with a disability of services available to
them.
- Assisting participants to make creative choices appropriate to their perceived goals
and needs.
- Providing support that enables people to access appropriate services, and to participate
fully in their chosen activities.
- Encouraging participants to take responsibility for their own health and well-being.
- Encouraging better communication between service providers and service users.
